Enero de 2026 comenzó con una cruda realidad: la muerte es inevitable.
La primera gran pérdida en el mundo de la música este año fue la de Jim McBride, miembro del Salón de la Fama de los Compositores de Nashville conocido por componer éxitos de música country junto a Alan Jackson. Falleció pocos días después de comenzar el año, el 6 de enero, a los 78 años. Entre sus canciones más conocidas escritas en colaboración con la estrella del country, se encuentran “Chasin’ That Neon Rainbow”, “Someday”, “That’s All I Need to Know”, “(Who Says) You Can’t Have It All” y “Chattahoochee”, la última de las cuales alcanzó el puesto No. 48 en la lista Billboard Hot 100 en 1993.
Días después, el 10 de enero, el cantautor colombiano Yeison Jiménez murió en un accidente aéreo que cobró la vida de seis personas. Tenía 34 años. Los seguidores de Grateful Dead quedaron consternados ese mismo día cuando un comunicado en la cuenta de Instagram de Bob Weir anunció que el miembro fundador de la banda había fallecido a los 78 años, tras haber superado un cáncer de pulmón, pero que había “sucumbido a problemas pulmonares subyacentes”.
Otra muerte inesperada de un artista célebre se anunció antes de que transcurrieran dos semanas del nuevo año. El músico John Forté, nominado al Grammy y conocido por su trabajo con The Fugees, fue encontrado muerto a los 50 años en su casa de Massachusetts el 12 de enero. La cantante de los Fugees, Lauryn Hill, rindió homenaje a su difunto colaborador días después, escribiendo en Instagram: “Esta pérdida es inesperada e irreal, y tengo el corazón destrozado… por su familia, por su esposa, por sus hijos, por sus amigos y por todos los que tuvimos la suerte de conocerlo”.
Aunque el año apenas empieza, Billboard recuerda a los músicos que han fallecido en lo que va de 2026. La lista incluye fecha de nacimiento y deceso (a menos que alguna no estuviera disponible) y enlaces a obituarios en inglés o en español.
